This painting is about the many beautiful ways in which I am finding connection happening in my current life. In a moment in time when I am only touching two people and leaving my property on only very rare occasions, I am noticing the incredible number of ways that there are to connect.
Aside from the obvious Zoom-nection, there is the time I have to spend in nature. I’ve been learning about and hugging so many of the trees on land behind my home. They’ve been a great source of comfort, strength and creativity for me. I’ve been sending post-cards to friends and family and receiving uplifting letters in the mail. I’ve seen signs on the side of the road that read “Thank you” and “Hope”. I’ve been calling friends and relatives that I love but rarely take the time to call and catch up with. About Jackie Ryan
I have never seen artmaking as a choice, but rather as a necessary and obvious part of living. What I am creating is always changing, but my commitment to creativity is an inevitable constant. The way I see it, the process of artmaking helps to integrate the endless information coming into the brain with the already present and always working imagination. It helps to process past experiences and vision future ones, all the while giving my mind, body and spirit a pathway to actually BE in the present moment of creation.
